Spring Cleaning Your Diabetes: Time for a Settings Reset

Hi Reader!

Spring is here, and while I've been busy decluttering closets and cleaning out my garage, I realized there's another area of my life that could use some spring cleaning: my diabetes management.

Lately, I've been working with many clients, helping fine-tune basal rates and bolus ratios. As I've been guiding others through these adjustments, it hit me - when was the last time I gave my own settings a thorough review?

If I'm being honest, it's been way too long.

So I'm committing to something that's about as exciting as scrubbing baseboards (but just as necessary) - retesting all my diabetes settings over the next few weeks. That means methodical basal testing, recalculating my insulin-to-carb ratios, and checking my correction factors.

I agree that this sounds like the opposite of fun. But just like that junk drawer we all have, our diabetes settings can get a little messy over time. Life changes, activity levels shift, stress fluctuates, hormones change, and sometimes what worked a year or two ago just isn't cutting it anymore.

Want to join me on this diabetes spring cleaning journey?

I'd love the company, and there's something powerful about tackling these tasks together. I'll be sharing tips and insights along the way that might make the process a little more fun for all of us over on my Instagram.

What I'm loving this month on Amazon!

Here are a few of my favorite purchases from the past month:

  • L'ange Heated hair straightening brush: After seeing a facebook ad and diving down a deep rabbit hole, I ordered this. It hasn't arrived yet, so TBD if it helps tame my frizzy, curly mane this summer!
  • The softest, slightly cropped basic tees: This 6-pack of t-shirts is perfect to pair with jeans, shorts, or leggings, and they are SO soft.
  • Swimming shampoo and conditioner: If you or your kids will be spending a lot of time in the pool this summer, you will thank me for this! This is the best swim shampoo and conditioner I have found. My daughter uses one of the little packets it comes with once/week in the summer, and they make a huge difference!
  • My new favorite water bottle: This was my mother's day present, and I use it daily. It is massive (40 oz), so I only have to fill it up twice per day to meet my hydration goals, AND it fits perfectly in my cup holder.
  • Skratch gummies: These have recently become another of my favorite low-blood-sugar treatments. One gummy raises my blood sugar about 20 points, so it makes it easy not to overtreat.

Until next time,

Lindsay

P.S. - I hope all the incredible moms in our community had the most wonderful Mother's Day last week! Whether you celebrated with breakfast in bed or managed your diabetes while cheering your kids on from the sidelines, you deserve all the love and celebration. 💕

Hi Reader! School started for my kids this week, and maybe it’s the Type A in me, but being back to a routine feels glorious. I love summer, but by mid‑August I’m ready for cooler mornings and more predictable days. Evenings are officially back to chauffeuring my kids around to soccer, baseball, tennis, and gymnastics. For me, staying busy and having a steady rhythm makes blood‑sugar management so much easier. Next week I have an appointment with a new endocrinologist. My last endo left the...

Hi Reader! I always underestimate how busy summer gets. Between work, vacations, playdates, and being the mom taxi, life fills up fast. Because of that, I’ve paused taking Nourish clients so I can focus on my blog, Omnipod trainings, and private clients in the FTF Warrior program. I truly believe in the FTF Warrior program. It’s designed to help you tighten up your blood sugars, hit 90%+ time-in-range, and predict how food, exercise, and everyday life affect your blood sugars. If you want...

Hi Reader! Happy Prime Day! I've been scouring deals and found some fantastic finds that I use and love personally, that I just had to share with you. Check them out below! On another note, summer is officially here (and it's my absolute favorite time of year! 🌞), which means it's prime time to talk about keeping insulin cool. Between beach trips, pool days, and spontaneous outdoor adventures, don't forget that your insulin needs a little extra TLC in the heat. Speaking of summer vibes, have...
